When Marshall Watkins (publicity team manager for The I-5 Connection) was asked what he could tell us about his group, he said the following, “The I-5 Connection is a group of about 55 singers and instrumentalists who meet each week during the school year to practice their music. I-5’s chosen mission is to share their music with the larger community through two concerts a year, visiting local retirement centers and responding to requests for performances for groups such as the Charbonneau Women’s Association." Under the direction of Jocelyn Higgins, I-5 has grown in size and in maturity and is excited to take on musical challenges. It is fortunate to have the artistry of Katie Turner at the keyboard as our accompanist. The I-5 Connection home base is the Wilsonville Community Center; the group is sponsored by Wilsonville Community Seniors, Inc. Bob Lytle Sheet Metal And, the group is supplemented with monthly contributions from the singers. A look at the group's roster reveals some interesting details about the membership. • Most of them do not have any formal training in music. Former or current occupations range from health care (10), education (10), office workers (8), professional musician (2), pastor, civil engineer, nuclear physicist, radio & TV performer, grain exporter and computer systems specialist, to name a few. • Their ages range from as young as 50 to members in their 90s. • They all enjoy the I-5 Connection community and the sense of belonging to something larger than any of them. • Learning music as a part of a group is a rewarding activity and sharing the music with the community makes it all worthwhile. What’s Up in February? Due to remodeling at the Charbonneau Country Club, the Women’s Association is venturing off- Many Charbonneau residents also participate in I-5 Connection.
