Greetings library fans and
friends!
February is the shortest month
of the year, but like every other
month around here, it’s packed
full of so many events and highfalutin’ gimcrackery that a body
hardly knows what’s coming next.
On Wednesday, February 5 at
6 pm, Emeritus Professor John
Ehrstine presents the latest in his
series of literary seminars. United States Poet Laureate William
Stafford was born in Kansas, but
became Oregon’s most celebrated
poet. How did this happen? How
did his experiences in Oregon
shape his creative work? Find out
at this seminar that will be held
on consecutive Wednesdays, from
January 29 to March 19. The first
meeting will showcase a visit by
Kim Stafford, William Stafford’s
son. There’s still time to sign up
for the class itself - just $40 for
the whole shebang, and texts are
available at a substantial discount.
Just call or visit the library to sign
up.
At 6 pm on February 7, our
fancy February First Friday Film
features famished, fairly frantic freedom fighters ferocious
for favors and food from fit, fascist flunkies. Can’t figure it out?
Yeah, me either, but wow, what
alliteration! Anyway, the film
stars Matt Damon and a crew of
thousands who must figure some
way to reach and overpower the
inhabitants of the giant orbiting
spacecraft known as ‘Elysium’.
It’s free, fun and fantastic.
Saturday, February 8 at 2 pm,
the library’s Booknotes Concert
touches down with Rhythm Culture. RC features blues and jazzinfluenced reggae to which you
are encouraged to dance and lose
your inhibitions. Find out more at
rhythmculture.org. Free and open
to all, so come on down, mon.
On Tuesday, February 11 at 4
pm, the Wilsonville Library Writers Group meets for its bimonthly
meeting (the next is on February
25). If you are a writer looking
for encouragement and support
for your work, the Writers Group
meets regularly to share writing
goals and experiences in a supportive environment. It’s free and it’s still not too late for a New
Year’s resolution!
Thursday, February 13 at 6 pm,
it’s time for the meeting of the august Wilsonville Book Club. This
month, they’re applying themselves to the novel Labrynth, by
Kate Moss (not the waifish model!). In this extraordinary thriller,
rich in the atmospheres of medieval and contemporary France,
the lives of two women born centuries apart are linked by a common destiny. Can they keep the
secret of the labyrinth safe? (Betcha they do!) As always, extra
copies of the books are available
for checkout and reading at the

February’s History Pub entry
for February will arrive on Tuesday 25, beginning at 6:30 pm. It’s
about Timberline Lodge, or so I
hear. But at press time, details are
not yet firmed up.

this far deserve to know: February is Food for Fines month at

On Monday, February 17, the
library is closed for a breather.
It’s Presidents’ Day, here punctuated correctly by a grammatical
pedant who never makes a single
eror. We’ll open the doors again
on Tuesday.
But, on second thought, why
not wait until Wednesday instead,
because that’s when our newest
club, the Great Books Discussion Group will gather at 4 pm.
If you’re interested in philosophy
and the ‘big questions’ of life,
please join us each month for a
roundtable discussion of how
modern-day issues are reflected and illuminated by the great
Western classic books. Up to bat
