First Friday in February Join us as we welcome back First Fridays in Waxhaw. On February 5th, bring your sweatheart to town and visit shops for discounts and photo-ops. Medicine Drop Box Ribbon Cutting Join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new medicine drop box located at the Waxhaw Police Department. The ceremony will take place on February 12th at 10am. Waxhaw Earns Downtown Grant The Town of Waxhaw will invest over $1 Million in downtown to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, increase connectivity, provide park enhancements and improve streetscapes. The investment is made possible with a 50% matching grant from the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO). Possible improvements include bike parking throughout downtown, enhanced striping and lanes, pedestrian activated crosswalks, new sidewalk connections, enhancements to walkways in the David G. Barnes Park, and parking realignments. New Positions within Town Hall The Town of Waxhaw is currently looking for an Assistant Town Engineer. The description for this position is as follows: “Under limited supervision performs professional civil engineering work in office and in the field, including The Village News ● February 2016 ● 20 Waxhaw News planning, design, construction inspection and management, permitting and land development services, hydrology, traffic, and transportation engineering programs. Assists in coordinating assigned activities with other Town departments, outside agencies, and the public; fosters cooperative relationships among Town departments and with intergovernmental and regulatory agencies and various public and private groups. Swift Water Rescue Recognition We would like to extend a special thank you to the men who participated in the swift water rescue in #townofwaxhawnc on November 19, 2015. Each of them played a vital role in rescuing the young girl who was caught in the rising waters. Thank you for all you did and continue to do to keep our town safe!
