'S JUNE RACE ROUND-UP

ended the race in an unlikely fourth after the retirements of Massa and Perez.

Hülkenburg and Alonso finished fifth and sixth respectively; Bottas seventh; Vergne eighth; Magnussen ninth. Räikkönen had a disappointing race, finishing tenth after a very strange spin at the hairpin.

Chilton Finishing Streak Ends

Marussia driver Max Chilton, who had been classified in every race of his career up until this point, collided with his teammate Bianchi on the opening lap. The stewards deemed Chilton to be responsible giving him a three place grid penalty.

Williams Surprise In Qualifying

Felipe Massa ended Mercedes’ domination of qualifying, taking pole position, his first since 2008. Williams locked out the front row, with Bottas second on the grid.

Rosberg Takes Third Win Of The Year

The normal order was restored in the race, Mercedes taking yet another 1-2. Lewis Hamilton recovered well from a disappointing qualifying, moving through the field quickly from P9 on the grid to be fourth behind his teammate after the opening lap.

The Mercedes duo then passed the two Williams cars at the first pitstops and nursed the cars to the finish, both cars suffering with brake issues.

Bottas claimed his first Formula One podium finish in third place

and his teammate Massa placed fourth.

Alonso showed good race pace to claim fifth just behind the Williams pair. Perez again did well, using an alternative pit strategy to good effect to go from fifteenth on the grid following his penalty from Canada to finish sixth.

Magnussen, Ricciardo, Hülkenburg and Räikkönen rounded out the points paying positions.

Vettel Reliability Issues Strike Again

Reigning champion Sebastian Vettel had another race to forget, temporarily losing power on the second lap, putting him to the back of the field one lap down. He was able to reset the car’s electronics to regain power but his race was already effectively over. The German then collided with Esteban Gutiérrez, damaging his front wing. The team then decided to retire the car with only half the race gone. Vettel was lucky to escape penalty for the collision: the stewards following an F1 Commission edict to be more lenient when investigating collisions.
