AMS Welcomes New
Students
On August 9, new students and their parents
attended New Student Orientation at AMS. Parents
heard from administrators and counselors about what
to expect this school year, while our new Tigers got a
chance to meet fellow new classmates. Current
Student Council officers and board members were on
hand to assist parents and students, and teachers led a
scavenger hunt and gave new students a tour of the
school.

The AMS cheerleaders attended a Varsity Spirit Camp over the summer. The girls learned new
stunts and transitions they will implement in their competition routine this year. The AMS cheer team
participated in the Squad Credentialing Program which makes them eligible to compete in bid

Orientation team-building activity. The activity’s
name is the Tennis Ball Transfer. The students were
randomly placed in small groups of 5 to work on
learning how to focus and collaborate with
others. The end result was the students were able to
work together, share ideas, accept feedback from
each other to figure out how to drop the tennis ball
into the cup without touching either object.
This activity allowed the students to practice
interacting with others, listening to others’
perspectives as well as building confidence to share
their ideas with others.
Over the summer, the Arlington Middle Dance Team attended UDA Camp at Mississippi State
University. The team was awarded 1st place in the junior high division for their home pom
routine, and they received a superior trophy for their routine evaluations.
Six AMDT members, Bree Alvarado, Julianna Brower, Bailey Duckett, Savannah Holley,
Ellie Grace Holst, and Bailey Nicholson, were selected as All Americans and were invited to
dance in the Walt Disney World Thanksgiving Day Parade.
AMDT was also awarded the Super Spirit Stick by their peers. The team’s accomplishments at
camp earned them a bid to the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, FL, this coming
February. The AMDT is led by Coach Brittney Jackson and sponsor Laura Shepherd.
