WINTER SPORTS PREVIEWS
WRESTLING
The AHS Tigers wrestling
team will be back on the
mats for the 2019 season
this winter. Head Coach
Johnathan Simpson will be
looking for the young men
to improve on last year’s
impressive resume. It
will be challenge after they won their 8th
regional championship, finished top 6 in
state duals, and top 10 in state individuals.
Leadership roles will need to be filled
after the graduation of regional
champions Caleb Morgan, Harrison
Phillips, and Jack Lewis.
However, the Tigers certainly have the
talent to do it. Seniors Reed Cannon,
Austin Antcliffe, Dalton Cockman, Luke
Kerns, and Justin Donahue will be leading
the charge for the Tigers. Cannon is a 3
time state placer and finished 2nd in the
state 120 pound division. Antcliffe
finished 6th in state at the 170 pound
division and Cockman finished 4th in the
state at the 152 pound division.
“We are hoping to continue our streak
of district and regional titles,”
Simpson said. “We feel we
have athletes now that can
accomplish this goal.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL
AHS Lady Tigers Basketball Head
Coach Wesley Shappley is planning for
the 2018-19 team to build on its 27-8
record last year with a return to the state
tournament. A veteran team with strong
returning players including Lanetta
Williams, Karlee Bates, and Nya Stewart,
Shappley sees the Lady Tigers experience
playing top teams as a key to a successful
season. While the team will have to
acclimate new players to its culture,
playing style, and competition level,
Shappley predicts that the AHS Lady
Tigers could be a contender for the state
championship title.

Fifth-year Golf Coach, Carl
Pfeiffer and the AHS Golf Team
had a very successful season this
fall. The Tiger Golf Team finished
the season as Girls and Boys
District Champions. When asked
about the season, Jack Davis said,
“The season as a whole was pretty
good. I feel like we progressed
together as we started to lower our
team score by the end of the year.”

2018-19 marks the first year the
team beat their rivals, Bartlett, twice
in the same season. The team was
led by seniors Anna Slye, Jack
Davis, Ryan Wander, MJ Hughes
and Hayden Danner. With help
from underclassmen, the Tigers had
a very successful season sending
Anna Slye (12) and Dalton Harrison
(9) to the State Tournament. The
Tigers look forward to another great
season with key players Dalton
Harrison (9), Colton Drissel (9), and

Walk into the lobby of
MicroPort Orthopedics in
Arlington and you'll find
posters
of
Terry
Bradshaw, former NFL
quarterback, endorsing the
company's product.
The NFL Hall of
Famer and 3-time Sports
Emmy
Award-winner
recently signed on as an
endorser of the company's
artificial knee system - a
product designed and
produced at the Arlington
headquarters.
Showing the posters of
Bradshaw's endorsement
was the final stop on the
tour for Arlington Middle
and High School students
during
last
week's
Manufacturing Day. It
brought home the point
that not only are the
products designed and
made in Arlington but that
they're actually helping
people's lives, even the
most recognizable names
in professional football.
Manufacturing
Day
offered two opportunities:
a chance for MicroPort
employees to inspire
young minds and for
students to see the work
manufacturers do on a
daily
basis.
AHS
Mechatronics and STEM I
students and AMS' STEM
I classes toured the facility
and saw how the products
were made from start to
finish.
They also met with
some of the company's
engineers and operation
specialists to learn about
their day-to-day jobs and
duties.
