Locally Owned: Area Residents Expand, Open New Businesses
In Arlington
November 2016
RIBBON CUTTING
By Terry Louderback
A fixture in Arlington for
20
years,
Arlington
Automotive, 5769 Airline
Road, has nearly completed a
second building that adds
4200 square feet and six new
service bays.
“Because of our great
local town support, we found
ourselves bursting at the
seams,”
says
Cyndie
Sorenson,
owner.
“Mechanics and oil change/
tire guys were fighting over
bays. We now have space to
grow and are able to expedite
service.”
Arlington
Automotive
opened in 1996 when
Arlington residents Brian and
Cyndie Sorenson purchased a
long-standing auto parts
store. Arlington Automotive
soon became a full-service
automotive shop. A true
family business, the couple’s
sons work with them as well.
Sorenson
adds
that
customers shouldn’t let the
full parking lot out front fool
them. “We have the facilities
and the manpower to provide
prompt customer service,”
she says.
A little further down
Airline, another Arlington
couple, Ben and Lara Hickey,
are renovating the space
previously occupied by
Yogurt
Mountain
in
preparation to open Crave, a
coffee shop at 11615 Hwy.
70, Suite 108A.

Workers install a brick wall in the future home of Crave. The coffee shop will also
feature a fireplace and seasonal outdoor seating.
Lara Hickey explains that
the quality schools and smalltown feel drew them to the
community.
“We
have
always dreamed of opening
our own place and when
Yogurt Mountain left, it just
seemed like the perfect
opportunity. I have said since
the day I moved here that
Arlington needed a coffee
shop with a different
atmosphere.”
The Hickeys met in
culinary school and bring a
combined 18 years of
experience to their new
endeavor. Ben was the head
chef of Amerigo and is
currently the head chef of
Babalu. Lara, a pastry chef,
worked at the Madison hotel
in downtown Memphis.
In addition to breakfast,
Crave will offer the same
menu for lunch and dinner of
soups,
salads,
hot
sandwiches, and small plates
(crab cakes, Cuban spring
rolls are just a few examples).
“We also offer dessert of
course,” Hickey says. “A
selection of our pastries or
pies that we will make daily.
Ben and I have some
specialties but we aren't
giving them away just yet!
But I know for certain I will
do a bread pudding and a
pumpkin bread.”
Crave will feature nitro
coffee. Served from a keg
(much like a beer), it is
chilled, frothy and naturally
sweet and creamy. For more
traditional tastes, the Hickeys
have paired with J. Brooks
coffee and created a signature
Crave House blend.
Hannah Halford, currently
the manager of Frost Bakery
in Collierville, and Austin
Slinger, a former employee
of Amerigo, will join Crave
as manager and kitchen
manager.
Hickey describes the
response
to
the
announcement of Crave’s
opening as “amazing.”
“We've had so many
people apply and e mail and
nothing but excitement and
positive things to say,” she
adds. “Basically the town has
been our cheerleader!”
Allstate Insurance-Ed Braly Agency.
Family, friends, vendor partners, and Chamber
members joined Ed Braly on Thursday, Nov 3 to
celebrate the opening of his Allstate Insurance
office in Arlington, 6050 Airline Road, Suite
108, Arlington. www.allstate.com/edbraly.
