The music department presented the third annual AES talent show on February 16 .

Fifth graders began their study of animal adaptations this winter with a wiggly , wormy experiment . Fifth graders Colton Aust and Justin Mitchell observed and studied some physical characteristics and behaviors of earthworms .
Fire Safety Poster Contest
Emma Taylor ( above , right ) won first place the Fire Safety Poster contest for second graders in the state of TN .

LES hosted eight other school system s to show how teachers
More than 40 students attended the first meeting of Lakeland Elementary ' s new Best Buddies club this month . Students had an opportunity to greet one another , talk with someone new , and create a handshake with their partner . Club members will have monthly meetings with different activities each month . The Best Buddies are off to a great start .

Winner
George Hughes , a first graders at AES , was one of the students selected among thousands of Tennessee students as a statewide winner in this year ’ s Fire Prevention Week poster contest . George attended an awards event at the Tennessee Fire Service and Code Enforcement Academy where he received a prize from Governor Haslam . At the special event in Bell Buckle , TN , George met Sparky the fire pup , pulled a 6000lb truck with a rope , and learned to extinguish a fire .
