Scouts line up to receive religious awards during the Scouting Sunday worship service.
TO GOD AND MY COUNTRY
By Teresa Rector
On Sunday, February 9,
Cub Scout Pack and Boy
Scout Troop 452 led worship
service at Arlington United
Methodist Church to share
prayers, scriptures,
presentation of the flags and
the scout awards and
achievements from the past
year.
Jim Vineyard, founder of
the Pack and Troop in 1998,
was on hand yesterday for a
history of the scouting units
and presentation of the God
and Me/God and Family
awards.
Scouts in grades 1-5
earned the awards during a
summer-long Bible study led
by scouts leaders at
Arlington UMC.
The service included a
message from former Scout
Master Phillip Knauss,
currently stationed in
Afghanistan, to scouts in
Troop 452 working towards
their Eagles from a
conversation he recalls with a
close friend.
“As for Eagle Scouts, I
would encourage boys to
consider projects that help
‘the least of these.’ Big
projects are nice,
cumbersome and require
long-term care. However, to
have an impact on the life or
lives of the disadvantaged,
hurting, poor, invalid, etc. is
to have the greatest longterm impact on both the giver
and receiver.”
Steve McCarver, Troop
Committee Chair also
presented the “Journey to
Excellence Award” to Rev.
Ken Stewart on behalf of
both Pack and Troop 452 in
honor of the support the
scouting units receive from

The Law Is Not Always the Answer
By David Peel
There are some
things that the justice
system might do well,
but we all agree it
does not do everything
well. Such is the case
one Kayla Michelle
Finley. She was arrested recently, and
spent the night in jail in South
Carolina. Her crime? Robbery? Murder? Not even
close.
She just forgot to return a
movie. It gets better.
The video rental place is
no longer in business. Really.
It gets better.
It was not even a DVD.
