This was the first District Championship for the girls, while the boys were repeat champs. For the girls, Trenity Hill and Tournament MVP Sarah Grandberry were selected to the All-District team. At the County level, the girls lost in the first round of the regional playoffs to a tough Germantown team. The Bobcats finished third in the regional tournament; Trenity Hill was named to the Region AllTournament team. The boys d e f e a t e d Shadowlawn and Mt. Pisgah to earn their first-ever County Championship Title and their second trip to the state tournament. Four AMS boys players were named to the County AllTournament Team (pictured above): Garrett Golday, Tate Kolwyck , Hunter Goodman, & John Anderson. On February 1, the AMS boys traveled to Brighton where they lost 54-48 to a powerful Cordova MS team in the first round of the state playoffs. The 2013-14 Arlington Middle School Bobcats Competative Cheer Squad has had an award winning season. The girls attended Camp at the University of Mississippi and received the f o l l o w i n g a w a r ds , 1st place Home Pom, 1st place Cheer, Overall Game Day Champions (this is a new entry), 2nd Extreme Routine, 2nd Sideline, Improvement Award, Leadership Award. Laura Brown, AMS sponsor, was most proud of the trophy for Leadership, this award is given to the squad who has proven to be the best leaders as well as most congenial; unlike the other awards this one is voted on by the other squads attending. In November the team attended Regional Competition where they received a bid to UCA Nationals and placed 2nd at the State Competition held in Murfreesboro, TN. Last month the team traveled to Orlando, FL Staff Photo AMS Cheer performs for family and friends at show night on February 4 at Arlington High School for the UCA Nationals competition and was awarded 3rd place, each cheerleader received a bronze medal. The Arlington Middle Competitive Cheer Team is comprised of 27 of AMS's best athletes- all of whom must also maintain rigorous academic requirements (C), a majority are enrolled in enriched/honors courses. These young ladies are visible all over campus because they are also very active in the extra curricular activities at AMS. They also volun- teered for the Spirit of Giving Christmas Packing Party where the cheerleaders gave of their time and energy to packing bags of gifts that went to deserving Shelby County elementary students. AMS administration, Miss Brown and Coach Wilkinson are concerned for the total development of the young ladies who always do their best to represent AMS Bobcat Competitive Cheer Squad. AMS Pom Competes at Nationals AMS Cheerleaders with UCA Nationals Bronze Medals By Marilyn Goad, AMS Pom Sponsor Cheer for the Kids Competition Arlington Middle Pom Squad had two great victories at the UDA Cheer for the Kids competition on January 25. The AMS Pom Squad brought home first place in both the pom and hip hop categories. National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida Arlington Middle School Pom competed in the National Dance Team Championship in Disney World February 1-2. The squad truly showed what a talented dance team they have become. The level of competition that the girls competed against was unbelievable, and our girls stacked up side by side with the top teams in the nation. The girls had many accomplishments this weekend includi ng ranking higher than all of our local rivals in the Semi-Final competitions on Saturday. AMS Photo Courtesy of AMS was named as a National Finalist in both the hip hop and pom categories, something only the top 40% of teams were able to do. The 5th place finish in hip hop and 6th place finish in pom are b o t h h u g e accomplishments, especially in a pom division where the point difference between 6th place and 2nd place was only 1.7 points.
