words, and having fun”. Brenna Kelly said, “I liked that you
had to use teamwork.” Students were then asked what they
would say if an upcoming fifth grader asked them if they
should join the Scrabble Club. Caleb Taylor said, “Yes,
because it is a competitive game where you make
words.” Jacob Harrington said, “If an upcoming fifth grader
asked me, I would say yes, because the teacher doing it is
awesome, and you learn all new things.” Teri Johnson is the
Scrabble Coach for Donelson Elementary.
STEM/Career Day
Community members and Donelson parents shared their
expertise with DES Students for STEM/Career day. Among
the activities, the AHS STEM team presented a marshmallow
challenge to many Donelson students (pictured right, top).
Paulo Aur, CEO of American Paper Optics, visited
Donelson Elementary School for STEM/Career Day on May
17, 2016. His company has manufactured over 2 billion 3D
glasses and is now manufacturing solar paper glasses in
preparation for the total eclipse that will occur August 21,
2017. Students from Mrs. Johnson’s and Mrs. White’s fifth
grade classes learned about different types of glasses such as
3D, chromaDepth, fireworks glasses, and the Eclipser.
