The
January
“Going the Extra
Mile”
Award
recipient is Kim
McKellar. Kim
serves as the Vice
President of Spirituality and Family
for the LES PTA
Board of Managers. Her main responsibilities include monthly collections and
processing our Box Top and Campbell
Soup Label programs which have raised
thousands of dollars for our programs.
Kim also had the enormous task of
handling our Angel Tree project this
December. This included determining
what gifts to purchase and spending

down for
the nine
Lakeland
kids who
benefited
from the
program.
In a seas o n ,
where it is hard enough to get everything
completed for your own family, Kim
went the extra mile to make sure
these children had a holiday that they
would never forget.
Kim is the Mom of second grader,
Connor and fifth grader, Samantha and
works as a fitness instructor at Bartlett
Rec. We are thrilled to have Kim on the
board for the second year and we app reciate all of her efforts to make Lakeland
Elementary the best of the best.

Myah Martin Wins BCES Geography Bee
Barret's Chapel Elementary school
hosted its annual Geography Bee
on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. The
longest Geography Bee in recent memory featured faculty members Mrs. Denman, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Adler, Mrs.
Green, Mrs. Turner, and Mrs. Johnson as
pronouncer, timekeeper, and judges.
Mrs. Clemens organized a wonderful bee that was well-attended by par-
ents, friends, and classmates of the fifteen participants from third through fifth
grades. Questions up to the eighth grade
level tested the students' knowledge of
states, countries, and continents.
Myah Martin, a fifth grade student, triumphantly won the Geography
Bee, with Nathan Schultz, also in fifth
grade, valiantly earning his second place
title.

Celebrating National Reading Day at LES
LES celebrated National Reading
Day on Thursday January 23. Students
and staff dressed as a favorite
character from the many books they
have read, including The Three Blind
Mice (5th grade teachers, above) and
Junie B. Jones (administrators, right).
It was an exciting day to see so
many different characters and how
creative the amazing students at LES
can be! Mrs. Crouch the principal, not
only joined in the fun, but thanked
everyone who made this day a
wonderful memory for all our young
readers!
