trapped in an 80 year old ’ s body .” Completing a half marathon — 13.1 miles long — was beyond her imagination .
So when family friend Kristi Mims asked Kim if Grace would be interested in participating using a specialized running stroller , the answer was clear — yes !
When the original plans to borrow a stroller fell through just a week before the race , Kristi turned to members of LiveFit Bootcamp and Studio and asked for help in purchasing a stroller for Grace to use that could potentially be shared with other patients to allow them to participate in races .
Within a few days , enough money had been donated not only to buy a stroller , but also provide gift cards for Grace to hand to patients along the way , and help pay for a service dog for Grace that will increase her independence and mobility . The race was back on .
Grace ’ s joy in being a part of the St ,. Jude Half – Marathon is based in a large part on being able to fundraise for a hospital that saved her life and so many others . She sees this as an opportunity to “ Pay It Forward ” by serving as an inspiration for children undergoing treatment and by sharing the stories and memories of other patients that she has befriended over the years .
In fact , Grace hopes to study to be a Child Life Specialist and eventually work with pediatric patients . She has already had the opportunity to share her story with younger patients who are just receiving the same diagnosis .
But last weekend , it was all about the race . Afterwards , Grace said that her favorite part was handing out the gift cards to the kids standing outside of the Target House and listening to their stories .
“ It was a once in a lifetime unbelievable experience . My body would never allow me to do this and these beautiful ladies provided me with an amazing gift that my family and I will always treasure .”
Staff , family , and Chamber friends , joined Dr . Chris Rowland and Dr . JB Selecman on October 30 at the opening of their new office at 5226 Airline Road , in Arlington . Arlington Little Free Pantry
On November 1 , Pastor Gordon Myers of Living Word Lutheran Church and Sherry Wooley ( owner of The Grapevine Tea Room ) cut the ribbon to launch the Arlington Little Free Pantry with church , Kiwanis , and Chamber members in attendance . This “ neighbor helping neighbors ” initiative is located behind Living Word Lutheran Church , 6108 Chester Street , in Arlington . The concept is , “ take what you need , bring what you can , above all , be blessed .” Food donations are accepted at The Grapevine Tea Room ( 6284 Chester Street ), First Citizens National Bank ( 5845 Airline Road ), and Bellevue Arlington administrative offices ( 11695 Hwy 70 , Suite 4 ); the Kiwanis Club of Northeast Shelby County is coordinating this project . The Little Free Pantry is accessible 24 hours a day , 7 days a week .
The Arlington Chamber welcomed Pediatrics East ( 11870 Cranston Road , Suite 104 , 901-317-7576 ) with a Ribbon Cutting on November 15 . Dr . Robert Higginbotham , president of the group , cut the ribbon as staff , friends , and Chamber members joined in the event . Dr . Daniel Chatham , Dr . Melanie Smith , and Dr .
