AHS sweeps , AMS wins big at Agricenter Art Awards

Arlington High and Middle Schools were a big force at this year ’ s Agricenter ’ s Farm of the Future poster contest awards , taking home five top prizes .
The contest , sponsored by Agricenter International , focused on farms of the future and challenged students to visualize what future farms could look like thanks to advances in technology , biology and genetics , as well as population booms . Artwork could include drawings , painting , photography , graphic design or short video .
Arlington High School swept the high school division and took the top three spots . Macy Clanton took first place , followed by Jenna-Claire Comella and Cara McMorran .

Meanwhile , Arlington Middle had a big showing and took home first and third place prizes . Jacob Wielgosz , a sixth grader , won first place for his rendition of a whale watering farm plants . AHS Musicians Shine at International Competition

The Arlington High School chorale department , led by instructor Jeffrey Chipman , recently gained international acclaim at a Festival Disney in Orlando , Florida .
At the end of the competition , both the Chorale and A Major received Superior ratings and Best in Class for Mixed and Jazz Choirs , respectively .
“ It is an honor and pleasure to work with such talented musicians who also happen to exemplify the highest levels of personal character in all that they do ,” said director Jeffrey Chipman .
The AHS Orchestra , under the director of Zachary Corpus , also performed during the Festival , receiving an
Excellent rating and placing 2nd overall in the High School String Orchestra category .
The AHS Band ( below ), directed by Timothy Simpson , was one of two selected to march during the Magic Kingdom parade .
AHS FACES
Kaia Williams from Arlington High School earned second place at the English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition Memphis Branch tournament on March 1 . Each student performed a Shakespearean monologue of their choice and recited a sonnet . Competitors were judged on their understanding of their selected texts and on their

ability to communicate their interpretation to the audience .

Olushola Ajayi , Lyon College
Arlington High Tiger Olushola “ Shola ” Ajayi recently signed a letter of intent to play football at Lyon College in Arkansas , a scholarship value of $ 28,200 .
Asked about Shola , AHS Football Head Coach Adam Sykes said , “ Shola ' s a great kid . To see his growth over the four years has been great to witness . He ' s got a good head on his shoulders and is a hard worker . He deserves everything he has .”
