Data Based off of MARR Sales Report Nutrition Spot Opens in Lakeland By Ainsley Feeney A new nutrition business has opened on Canada Road, and they’re excited to make an impact in their community. After hosting their ribbon-cutting ceremony in early January, owners Amy Foster and Shanda Bearden have gained overwhelming support online and in-store. I talked to Amy Foster to learn more about their business. Foster and Bearden are “health-minded,” Foster says, which prompted the duo to consider adding a healthy drink option to the Lakeland area. Both are Lakeland residents and members of OrangeTheory Fitness. The building that is now home to Nutrition Spot was originally occupied by Nutrition Lounge, which both Foster and Bearden frequented. When the owner of Nutrition Lounge moved out of state and the building was up for sale, the ladies jumped at the opportunity. “We were already wanting to open a business in Lakeland,” Foster told me. I asked Mrs. Foster why having a business like Nutrition Spot is important for the Lakeland community. She pointed out that there aren’t many options for healthy food in the area-- almost every restaurant in the surrounding area is fast food. She also explained the strategic location. Nutrition Spot is close to many gyms, such as OrangeTheory, ATC Fitness, and LA Fitness. This ensures that those who are going to the gym have a refreshing and healthy post-workout booster. In the future, the owners want to see Nutrition Spot become a place for students and other Lakeland citizens to hang out. They offer free Wi- Fi, charging ports, and spacious tables for anyone who wants to work or study with a delicious shake in hand. To encourage students in the Lakeland area to check out the cafe, Nutrition Spot is currently offering a “student happy hour.” This special gives students $2 off a shake or a tea, Monday through Thursday, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Their blueberry muffin shake is one of their bestsellers, along with the “Elvis.” This shake is based off Memphis legend Elvis Presley’s favorite food: peanut butter and banana sandwiches. In fact, Foster says that “anything with peanut butter” has been a hit. The Nutrition Spot’s regular hours are 6am-6pm Monday through Friday and 8am-3pm on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. Their entire menu can be found online, and there are many vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions.
