Set the parking brake
Put the transmission shift lever in Neutral
Slowly release the main brake until all the
weight of the vehicle is resting on the parking
brake
Put the vehicle in Park
Chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from
rolling.
When you leave, be sure to do the opposite
procedure:
Foot on the main brake
Shift into the appropriate gear
Release the parking brake
If you are backing down a steep hill, then
follow the hill abort procedure.

to a stop (such as on a shelf road)
