The Old Pond

The pond, forgotten
Has lasted the test of time
What will happen next?
An old frog jumps in
An old man in an old pond
An old resident
Splash! Another frog
Leaps into the pond, a companion
They are together
Many frogs spring in
They are one, a family
As one, they are strong
But a blue-winged heron swoops
Lower and lower it flies
Skimming the surface
Snatching up its meal
They cannot save each other
Maybe they're not so strong
Linked in the old pond
Together, yet separate
Were not united
The frogs in the pond
Their life in the vast pool was brief
Gone in a blink of an eye
The pond, forgotten
Has lasted the test of time
But the frogs have not
