The guards ushered us towards the larger one, pushing and shoving us the entire way there. I saw someone trip and fall to the ground, unable to pick himself up again. I managed to make eye contact with him for a split second before he was run over by the other deportees.
Once we arrived at the farmhouse, we were forced into three nearby barracks and ordered to undress. We stripped our clothes off quickly in complete silence, as no one dared to speak a word.
Afterward, they led us into the farmhouse. Inside, I noted grimly how the windows were all walled over, the once white walls streaked with grime and other substances. We stood huddled together in the middle of the room, shivering both from the chill in the air and from the absolute terror in our hearts.
