"After much discussion, the defendant, Oliver Field, has been found guilty of second-degree murder and will be sentenced to life imprisonment for the robbery of the Eli Broad Collection and the intentional, but not premeditated, death of an officer."

I stood silently, next to my friend. I couldn't begin to think about his punishment without hearing the result of mine. I knew what he did was bad, but what I had done was worse.

"As for Jake Warden," he paused, clearing his throat, "he has been found guilty of treason for feeding false information to the government about the case of Oliver Field and accessory to the murder of a security officer and will be sentenced to death."

Everything around me seemed to stop. All the noise muffled together and my entire body went numb. I could feel Olly shaking, sobbing how sorry he was. It didn't matter now. I had lied. I had chosen to try and save my friend. I had gotten myself into this situation. And now I had to pay for it.
