It happens to all of us. At some point or another, we realize we are slowly drifting into a haze. We are not dead, but we are not quite alive. Every day is just another day. Every activity, project, meal, and assignment just feels like another item to check off a never-ending list. Where am I? What has happened to me? Here is where a line has been crossed. Here begins the Line of the Living.
Every day is a new opportunity. Once the Line of the Living has been crossed, every day becomes a missed opportunity. The hundreds of conversations, activities, and pieces of learned information all blur together into some semblance of a day. A day of what? When you start to realize this has happened and you can no longer recall what you have done, you have crossed the Line. However, this should not be the case; you should be able to enjoy your life. When the stress begins to overwhelm you, dragging you towards the Line, you need to think about the parts of your life that count. What matters to me?
This is the first step to crossing back. Step away from your life, out of the haze, into another dimension, and look at where you have been. Assess the importance of these places, of all that has occurred along the way. Clear out your schedule to allow time to relax. Make sure you enjoy what is on your list for the day, and make sure that the activities you do to relax yourself are actually relaxing. Most importantly, know your limit. Sometimes, enough is enough, and life has veered you off your usual path towards the Line of the Living. Finally, trust others. Life is not always easy, and there is no reason to have to handle the stress of it alone. Tell someone when you feel like you have crossed the Line, because they can help you cross back.
Live your life. Sometimes, crossing the Line of the Living is unavoidable, but crossing back never is.
