When I first heard about the new Captain America movie, I could have cared less. Upon seeing Captain America: The First Avenger on a long flight, I was quite disappointed and underwhelmed with the first movie. It was bland and didn’t really catch my interest with the boring character development and bland setting in the 1940’s. However, my love for Marvel was unattainable and over Spring break I went to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The hype had not really gotten to me, and the trailer was unimpressive as well. Nonetheless, I somehow managed to give Steve Rogers another chance to redeem himself. Never had I been more grateful for giving anything a second chance. Although it is quite rare to see superior sequels, the second installment of the Captain America film franchise blew me away. Ironically, the sequel was very impressive because it tied in with the first movie. I believe that if I had not seen The First Avenger, Winter Soldier would not have touched
me as deeply as it would if I had not seen the first movie.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an American superhero movie produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is a stellar sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Or as the “greater good” knows him, Captain America. Captain America, the Black Widow, and Sam Wilson join forces to undermine within S.H.E.I.L.D. while facing off against a mysterious assassin known as the Winter Soldier. Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released in North America on April 4, 2014, and was a huge success, grossing over $646 million worldwide, more than twice that of its predecessor.
I especially enjoyed how the movie tied in with the first one. For example, the madness that took place in The Avengers is mentioned very frequently in Iron Man 3, Thor 2: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film has all of the perfect elements for every movie; humor, emotion, action, and suspense. Although there is a significant lack in romance compared to Marvel’s other movies, I enjoyed that aspect of it as well. Instead of dragging along a pointless romance side-story, the movie primarily focuses on freedom, justice, and friendship. The only issue I had with the movie is the unresolved ending. The ending was quite abrupt and I still had many questions that needed to be answered. Although the ending was not the best, it was somewhat excusable assuming that they
will be answered sometime in the future.
Fortunately, a sequel is scheduled for release on
May 6, 2016.
