Poetry

The notes fly out

Stealing your breath

Transforming the way

You see the world

The light shimmers

On the stage

The music echoes

Through the empty hall

I’m all alone

The red velvet seats

Stare at me

Soon to be filled with people

My breath catches in my throat

As I sit on the edge

Of the stage

My feet dangling, it’s a long jump

Sound fills the hall

The notes bound from wall

To wall

Each shimmering note dances

Like beautiful diamonds.

Rings forged with love and affection,

A wedding aimed for bliss and perfection;

After our first kiss as husband and wife,

He replied with a sentence to change my life.

I was drafted for war, said the emotional soldier

Congratulations, I countered, faking composure

He was gone for six months, called every day

It was not enough to keep my sorrow at bay.

One day, a knock; my love returns today

No, an army official, with a yellow KIA.

Sinking into grief, my heart drowned in tears

Waiting for no one for what seemed like years.

Eternally bound and forever alone,

I never loved again.
