Drama, love, torture; three qualities that make for a great story. Veronica Roth’s Divergent, her first book of the trilogy, beholds all of these qualities. The Divergent trilogy takes place in the future. A sixteen-year-old girl is put on the spot to make the decision of where she belongs. She can either stay with her family forever, or leave and never return. One small problem is that she is Divergent and that causes some issues. She seeks help in her friend and her boyfriend while they steer clear from their enemies.
Roth is only twenty-five years old and she has already written an award-winning trilogy and sold the rights to a movie. This young author started writing the Divergent series in college. She says some of her major inspirations were a psychology course and a song she hated. Roth has written three books on her own (Divergent series), another book with several other authors called Shards and Ashes, and finally Free Four, a short e-book.
Veronica Roth has already revived the typical love story and taken the cinema world by storm. Like Stephenie Meyer, author of the Twilight series, Roth’s stories have a sci-fi apocalyptic theme. Her stories are gripping and you will not be able to put the book down. For this reason she has won two Goodread awards and has been nominated for a kids choice award. As a New York Times best selling author, Veronica Roth has already made an impact in the literature world and plans to keep writing in the future.
