The Japanese eatery first debuted in Minneapolis’ Kingfield neighborhood in 2014 (see photo below), offering sustainable sushi and hot dogs piled with soba noodles and shishito peppers, among other things.
Now, the project from siblings Sarah and Sam Peterson, chef Hide Tozawa and restaurateur Kim Bartmann is expanding across the river, to the building that housed the former Tanpopo Noodle Shop.
Unlike the Minneapolis location, the St. Paul shop will have a full bar along with its sake, beer and wine offerings, and will feature a selection of Japanese whiskeys. Also on the menu at both Kyatchis: grilled meat and vegetable skewers, Donburi rice bowls and other small plates.
Kyatchi’s hours at 308 E. Prince St. will vary slightly from those of Minneapolis: it will be open from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Happy hour goes from 4 to 6 p.m.
