Religious Life to be workshop topic at
Faith Formation Conference

Pope Francis encourages everyone to be on the
margins serving the most vulnerable people and
advocating for justice. Women and men Religious
have always been servants of the marginalized and
they continue to be with those most in need.
At the Nov. 21-22 Faith Formation Conference to be held at the Santa Clara
Convention Center, with over 2,500 attendees, a special panel presentation is
being prepared by Religious and Associates in the Diocese of San Jose.
The presentation will focus on how today’s Religious are walking into the
future partnering with Associates and other laity to bring the Good News and
God’s compassion to a fragmented world.
Sister Elizabeth Avalos, BVM, Marcia Krause, OP, Stephanie Lynott, SNJMA
and myself are planners of the event, along with Sister Rosalie Pizzo, SNDdeN,
Diocesan Delegate to Religious.
We are offering a workshop of education, challenge, hope, joy and invitation
to those who believe that, as Pope Francis says, “The Church must be a place
of mercy freely given, where everyone can feel welcomed, loved, forgiven, and
encouraged to live the good life of the Gospel.” (The Joy of the Gospel)
There are 900,000 men and women in Religious orders globally serving as
expressions of joy and service to the people of God. Meet Religious and their
Associate partners from the Diocese of San Jose to learn more of their lives and
mission.
Web information and educational materials will be available. As we celebrate
the Year of Consecrated Life in 2015, Pope Francis says he hopes that Religious,
with Associates and lay partners, “will wake up the world” with their love and
testimony of faith.
Catholic schools, hospitals, faith formation, pastoral care, social justice outreach, prayers and presence to the needy and poor are the hallmark of Religious
and the dedicated ministries of their communities. Let us celebrate together
their work, hopes and dreams!
Diocese of San Jose sponsors
prayer event for victims of violence
The Catholic Community of San Jose invites everyone to an evening of prayer
for victims of violence and those who are left to remember them, Tues., Sept. 23,
7:30 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 5111 San Felipe Rd., San José, 95135.
Sister Maryann Cantlon, CSJ, Director of Restorative Justice for the Diocese of
San Jose, said, “knowing that those who are left behind to mourn need an opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who have gone before, we invite you to
send the name of anyone you would like remembered, before Sept. 15, so they can
be included in this celebration of Evening Prayer. Please invite others to join us.”
She said, “This is a communal celebration of remembrance of those who have
lost their lives through violence during the past year.” Names for remembrance
should be sent to Sister Maryann Cantlon, 1150 North First Street, San Jose 95112,

60th anniversary, there was an incorrect reference regarding the first
Principal, Sister Cleta Herold, PBVM,
who is alive (not RIP).
