Q&A with Bishop Cantú

interview. Bishop Cantú was in San Jose
briefly to acclimate himself to his new
home. This interview has been edited
and consolidated for space).
LIZ SULLIVAN: Congratulations and
Welcome to the Diocese of San Jose. We’ll
start with the standard question. How did
you learn of your appointment and what was
your reaction?
BISHOP OSCAR CANTÚ: If I
remember correctly, it was Monday
morning when I got the call from the
(Apostolic) Nuncio (Archbishop Chris-
tophe Pierre). I didn’t have the number
on my speed dial and I was in the midst
of a meeting with our superintendent
in Las Cruces, I looked at my phone I
saw it was a Washington number.
