Saint Christopher School Participates in Marker Recycling Program
St udents at Saint Christopher
School are working to save the planet,
one dried out marker at a time.
Student Council is encouraging
members of the school community to
turn in used markers to be recycled
instead of thrown into a landfill.
Student Council officers visited each
classroom, explained the initiative,
and gave each class a tub to collect
old markers.
Students responded immediately
and have even brought in used mark-
ers from home. The markers will be
sent to Crayola ColorCycle, where they
will be repurposed.
The Director of Safety and Ecology
said, “It is our job to care for God’s cre-
ation, and recycling and reusing is an
easy way for students to be involved.”
Pope Francis said that climate
change is “an issue of great impor-
tance for humanity and the whole of
creation.” The students are motivated
to do their part in saving our common
home.
Join Saint Christopher School in
stepping up and serving God by drop-
ping off used markers at the school’s
Open House on November 7.
Fourth grade students from Saint Christo-
pher School are actively working to care for
God’s creation.
Our Lady of Grace Nativity Students Attend Kick-off Event for 100th Anniversary of Women’s Right to Vote
By Darlin Santos
8th grade student
I had the opportunity to participate
at the Downtown march on August 25
with two of my classmates and teacher,
Mrs. Packard. It was a good experi-
ence and feeling knowing that there
are women of all races and ethnicities
supporting each other day by day.
Knowing that the city of San José has
diversity amongst their leaders gives
me the chance to see how women can
have a great impact in our society.
There were many great speeches
given that encouraged everyone in the
crowd to work strongly together to
make a difference where it is needed.
We overlook the fact that 100 years ago
women didn’t have the right to vote
and have their opinion valued. That
day we celebrated the bravery it took
for each individual person to fight for
their rights. They spoke out without
hesitation because they had support
and were not alone in the fight. If it
wasn’t for those women such as Susan
B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady
Stanton, Lucy Stone, and Ida B. Wells,
we wouldn’t be standing here in 2019
with the ability to do such a simple
thing like voting.
Participating in events like these is
really eye-opening and a good way to
hear what others have to say about the
issues going on around us.
In August 2020, we will join others
again as we celebrate the 100th An-
niversary of the passage of the 19th
Amendment, known as the Suffrage
Amendment.
