St. Justin School
Celebrates
International
Day of Peace
St. Justin School Student Council
led the celebration of International Day
of Peace on September 18 through a
special prayer service during morning
assembly. The ceremony began with the
Prayer of St. Francis. St. Francis of Assisi has taught us to always live our faith
even sometimes through words. The
Student Council reminded students
that we should “Pay Peace Forward”
by our actions towards others.
Student Council members decorated
the “Peace Tree” with various symbols
of peace from our faith and from many
cultures. The tree resides in the school
foyer and serves as a reminder that
peace is a desire of people from all over
the world. The event concluded with
the entire student body singing “Let
There Be Peace on Earth.”
The first Day of Peace was celebrated
in September 1982 and in 2002, September 21 was declared the permanent date
for the International Day of Peace. At
St. Justin School, we foster the development of faith-filled individuals who are
responsible and socially just citizens!
The International Day of Peace reflects
our school mission.

Celebrating the Feast of the Holy Rosary
at St. John School
Also known as the month of the
Holy Rosary, St. John School held a
Mass led by Ms. Vollov and the 7th
grade students on October 7.
The Mass was presided over by
Monsignor Willie Manrique, who
blessed the rosaries which were given
to the students. He also encouraged
everyone, especially the students to
take the time to pray and thank their
parents for all that they do for them.
Every day in the month of October,
the entire student body will pray a
decade of the rosary during morning
assembly. School families are also encouraged to pray the rosary at home.
Each event from the life of Christ
was presented and described in front
of the entire student body during
Mass.
Chess Club has returned to St. Lucy
School this year and is moderated by
parent John Howard.
“I like chess because it is a thinking
game.” says Howard. “Players learn to
think ahead, concentrate, and chess
can also aid in enhancing math skills.”
Some club members know the rules
and how to play, while others are just
learning the game. No matter the skill
level, all are welcome.
Among the other activities offered at
the school are: Basketball, Book Club,
Choir, Cooking Club, Drama Club, Flag
Football, Helping Hearts Service Club,
Homework Club, Lego-Robotics Club,
Monday Math Club, Scouting, Student
Council, S.W.A.T. Technology Club,
Tech Tuesday Club, Track & Field, Volleyball and Yearbook.
