Queen of Apostles Student Council Commissioned
As the new academic year begins , the Queen of Apostles School Student Council for year 2017-2018 was ceremoniously commissioned by Principal Marty Chargin at the opening school Mass held on Sept . 5 . The Student Council consists of Nicole Kolmanovsky as President , Madison Penick as Vice President , Tulia Ku as Secretary , Francis Olakangil as Treasurer , Wudase Yousef as Religion Rep , Joelle Luiz as Spirit & Ecology Rep , and Max Amicarelli as Sports Rep . They pledged to lead , serve , and represent the student body throughout the academic year .
Additionally , the school-wide theme of “ Practice Kindness ” was announced during this Mass . Pastor Father Thuc Si Ho asked the students to absorb the parable of the Good Samaritan into their lives and treat others as they themselves would like to be treated . While each class put forth its own views about expressing kindness by sharing , showing support , spreading joy , and putting others before themselves , Father Thuc expressed three things that display kindness encouraging the school community to speak kind words , express kind deeds , and live a kindness-filled life .

Who doesn ’ t love the “ Happiest Place on Earth ,” especially when your favorite students are dancing down Main Street ?
This past spring , the Saint Frances Cabrini Dance Team performed in the “ Dance the Magic Parade ” at the Disneyland Resort in front of 100,000 spectators . More than 900 dancers from dance studios as far away as Australia and China participated in the parade .
Saint Frances Cabrini was the only school invited to perform . Our dancers , comprised of 4-8 graders , practiced for over 60 hours to learn the parade routine taught to them by Disney cast members and choreographers . Our SFC Dance parents held several fundraisers to ensure every dancer would be able to participate in this memorable event .
The Dance team will return to Disneyland to perform in the “ Merry Holiday Parade ” on Dec . 9 .
Being 102 years strong , Saint Leo the Great School has thousands of graduates .
The school reached out to all of the alums for whom the school has email contact information and invited him or her to a wine tasting . Graduates from more than 60 years ago to 15 years ago attended the event . They shared memories about their time at Saint Leo the Great School and wished the school success for another 102 years !
The graduates were welcomed “ home ” to Saint Leo and were taken on a tour to see all of the exciting changes that have occurred over the years . Those who took a tour said that the classrooms seemed bigger than when they were in school – they had 40-50 students in their classes !

To commemorate the tragedies of 9 / 11 and to nurture peace worldwide , religion classes and individual students at Saint Francis High School committed themselves to prayer during a Day of Peace , organized by Saint Francis ’ Campus Ministry .
Throughout the day , on Monday , Sept . 11 , students entered the chapel to light a candle and write a prayer for peace on colorful paper doves , which they then hung in the courtyard outside of the chapel . “ At a time when the world is facing so much uncertainty , strife and natural calamities , it is important to set aside a day of prayer to contemplate and pray for peace ,” said Mary Ann Ruebusch , lay member of the SFHS Campus Ministry .
“ For far too long , world peace has been elusive ,” stated Father Tony Mancuso , school chaplain . “ In many ways , this is a mark of who we are – we are called to be a Catholic school that embraces all faiths , and we are under the patronage of Saint Francis of Assisi , who is known and revered among so many as a gentle man of peace .”
Students linked arms and prayed for our country ’ s leadership and DACA recipients at an after-school student led rally on Sept . 14 . Students from LatinX , Campus Ministry and Students for Political Action shared facts about DACA and its impact on the Latino community . The rally closed with the opportunity for students to write letters to their government representatives calling for the protection of DACA .
