On October 26, the Diocese of San
Jose hosted more than 40 community
leaders from across Santa Clara County
for a Convocation for Homelessness and
Affordable Housing.
Led by Bishop Patrick J. McGrath and
Father Jon Pedigo, Director of Projects
for Peace and Justice for the Diocese,
the gathering addressed the growing
problem of homelessness in the county.
A new study on homelessness underwritten by the County of Santa Clara,
between 2007 and 2012, shows 104,206
individuals experienced homelessness
during that period. Also, the top 5
percent of the homeless population accounted for 47 percent of all public costs.
In addition, more than $3 billion worth
of services went to homeless residents
during the six-year period.
