( Editor ’ s note : On May 2 , the Diocese of Monterey posted this statement on their website about Bishop Richard Garcia . The Bishop was ordained a priest in 1973 at Sacred Heart Parish in San Jose . He later served the Diocese of San Jose as Pastor of Saint Leo the Great Parish , Director of Vocations and Vicar for Clergy ).
We Believe In The Power Of Prayer ...
In recent weeks , Bishop Garcia expressed that he did not feel well and decided to clear his calendar to take time to rest and seek medical attention . Last week , it was confirmed that he is in the early stages of Alzheimer ’ s Disease . This news is difficult to learn , but Bishop Garcia has great faith and a deep spiritual life to assist him in facing this diagnosis .
At this time no further decisions or actions have been made . Please pray for Bishop Garcia , his family , his staff and our entire diocese . At the same time , please respect his privacy .
In this time of adjustment , please refrain from calling him , visiting him , dropping off gifts at his home , but rather , please send him a note or a card with the promise of your support and prayers . Please send it addressed as follows :

The Valley Catholic Young Journalists Introduction

By Justin Chung
This past summer , I had the privilege of interviewing priests about their lives in ministry and telling their stories . In each interview , I grew immersed by their stories as I learned personal details about their journeys . From this experience , I realized that there are so many fascinating , inspiring narratives of faith out there that deserve to be shared because they possess potential to inspire , teach and simply appreciate .
After my experience , I longed to expand my role and endeavored to create a team for aspiring journalists who could explore the journalism and their own faiths by uncovering additional narratives of ministry within their communities . The Valley Catholic Young Journalists Group is a team of high school journalists who are passionate about retelling such stories through priests , ordinary people and religious events . Our mission is to share anecdotes of faith and experiences of God in people ’ s lives , specifically aiming to connect with fellow Catholic youth .
If you have stories that you would like to share , please feel free to contact me . And if you ’ re like me , someone who enjoys writing , telling stories , and is active in your parish , come join our group ! Email : justinjchung4 @ gmail . com .
