community The Valley Catholic Dan Schutte, well-known composer of Catholic worship music, will lead parishioners, friends and guests of St. Christopher Parish in an evening of music, stories and reflection, Fri., March 21, 7 pm, in preparation for the Paschal Celebration. The music of Dan Schutte continues to be a part of Christian worship worldwide. He is one of the best known, most prolific and influential composers of Christian music for the liturgy, according to parishioner Mario Domino. Schutte has been composing for more than 40 years. His pieces include “Here I Am, Lord,” “City of God” and “Sing a New Song” and come from his years of collaboration with the St. Louis Jesuits. Vallombrosa Center presents Local Filipinos celebrate St. Pedro Calungsod Vallombrosa Center in Menlo Park is sponsoring a half-day talk on “Theology of the Body,” March 8, 9 a.m. to noon, presented by Ed Hopfner, recently appointed Director of Marriage and Family Life for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. “This talk will present the Catholic Church’s teaching on marriage and sexuality in a way that is attuned to the modern person,” said Rachel Alvelais of the Vallombrosa staff. She said, “Many people have heard of Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body and recent popes have called for a ‘New Evangelization’ – capable of reaching people in everyday life. “The Theology of the Body attempts to do that,” she said, “offering a meditation on human love and happiness that resonates with the human heart.” Hopfner has given talks on marriage, sexuality and family life throughout North America. Originally from Seattle, he has a master’s degree in Theology from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology and resides in Berkeley. The presentation will be given again on May 3.
