The schools in the Diocese of San
Jose began Catholic Schools Week
with an all-school liturgy at St. Joseph
Cathedral Basilica. Our students brought boxes filled
with toiletries to be given to clients at the cathedral’s
Social Ministry Office. High school students cooked
and served a BBQ lunch to the clients, who live on the
streets, as a way to remind us life is fragile in this valley.
Over 350 students from our elementary and secondary schools participated in the liturgy with Bishop
Thomas A. Daly as presider. Vicars General Monsignor
Francis V. Cilia and Father Brendan McGuire and
Father Sergio Ovando from St. Martin of Tours Parish
concelebrated. The musicians and choir from Presentation High School provided beautiful music. What a
great way to start our weeklong celebration!
Monday evening we greeted another 350 parents
and friends of our schools at Archbishop Mitty High
School for a thank-you donor event. Sam Nash, fifth
grader from Sacred Heart in Saratoga, and Drew Descourouez, junior at Bellarmine, told their stories of
