Msgr. John T. Foudy
dies, led
Catholic schools
Msgr. John T. Foudy, priest of the
Archdiocese of San Francisco, died
Jan. 4 at age 100 years. He was a former
Superintendent of Schools for the archdiocese in the 1960s and presided over
Catholic education in what is now the
Diocese of San Jose, when Santa Clara
County was part of the archdiocese.
Born in San Francisco, Msgr. Foudy
attended elementary school there and
then the former St. Joseph Seminary in
Mountain View, followed by studies
and formation at St. Patrick Seminary
and University in Menlo Park.
He was ordained to the priesthood
in 1940 and attended Catholic University of America where he earned a doctorate in education in 1945, followed by
more than 20 years in Catholic education administration. Subsequently he
served as a pastor, retiring from St.
Anne of the Sunset Parish in 1990.
He is survived by his sister Mary
Foudy and was preceded in death by
his late brother Father Denis Foudy.
His funeral Mass was celebrated at St.
Anne of the Sunset Church, SF, Jan.
9; interment at Holy Cross cemetery,
Colma.

Run for Zimbabwe
set for March 23
The 15th annual Run for Zimbabwe Orphans and Fair will take place
Sun., March 23, 12-4 pm, at St. Joseph
Catholic School in Mountain View.
Sponsored by the Sustainable Living
Foundation, it supports Makumbi Children’s Home in Zimbabwe where 92
orphans are provided basic necessities.
