DSJ collection for retired Religious hits highest amount since 2007
The latest collection in the Diocese of San Jose for retired Religious hit $193,806.54, the highest amount since 2007 and more than a $32,000 increase over the previous year. Sister Rosalie Pizzo, SND, Bishop’s Liaison for Religious in the DSJ, in a letter to pastors, thanked local Catholics for their support. “The health care needs of our elderly and infirmed Religious have continued to escalate. We so appreciate your understanding. Thank you!” Sister Rosalie wrote, “Know that the pastoral leadership that you and your parochial vicars provide does not go unnoticed especially by those of us who have worked in parishes. We have seen firsthand how challenging it is to respond to the multiple demands of our contemporary world.” In a letter of thanks to Bishop Patrick J. McGrath, Sister Janice Bader, CPPS, Executive Director of the National Religious Retirement Office, noted total DSJ contributions for all of the years of the collection amount to nearly $5 million. “Your generosity surely helps Religious address the many challenges they face as they age,” she said. “Even as they age, their commitment to ministry and their prayer and spiritual life are vibrant testimony to the faithfulness they promised so many years ago. We are grateful for your support.”
