4 August 20, 2019 | The Valley Catholic IN THE DIOCESE Bishop Oscar Cantú Announces Changes to Chancery Staff Led by Bishop Oscar Cantú, who succeeded for Bishop Emeritus Patrick J. McGrath in May, the Dio- cese welcomes several new people to the Chancery and the ministry of the Church in Santa Clara Valley. Among them: Vicar General Father Hao Dinh [email protected] (408) 983-0167 - office Father Hao Dinh, whose semi- nary formation was both in Saigon, Vietnam, and Menlo Park, was or- dained on May 15, 1993, by the late Bishop Pierre Du- Maine and has been a priest of the Diocese of San José for 26 years. In previous assignments in seven parishes, he served as pastor of the parishes of Saint Thomas of Canterbury and Holy Family, and most recently as parochial vicar of Saint Martin Parish in Sunnyvale. He also has served on deanery and Diocesan levels in dif- ferent roles, including Vicar for Vietnamese Ministry. In addition to his duties as Vicar General, he currently is pastor of Church of the Ascension Parish in Saratoga. Father Dinh is fluent in Vietnamese. Vicar for Clergy Monsignor Wilfredo Manrique [email protected] or [email protected] (408) 983-0154 - office Monsignor Wilfredo Manrique was ordained by Bishop Pierre Du- Maine for the Diocese of San José on December 10, 1988. He is not new to the position, having served as Vicar for Clergy between 2003 and 2010. Monsignor Manrique, who earned his license in Canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, also has served as a Tribunal judge. In addition, he has served as a parochial vicar in five parishes and as pastor of Saint Christopher Parish. In addition to his duties as Vicar for Clergy, he currently is pastor of Saint John the Baptist Parish. Monsignor Manrique is fluent in Spanish, Filipino, and Kampampangan. Chief Operations Officer Rosio González [email protected] (408) 983-0210 - office As a professional executive lead- er for over 25 years, Rosio González has worked in Catholic, public, and private non-profit organizations. She led Catholic Charities of Idaho as its executive director; served as the department head for Pastoral Offices in the Archdiocese of San Antonio; and most recently served in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., as Deputy Director for Catholic Charities and later as President of the Consortium of Catholic Academies. Rosio and her husband, Will, have been married for 22 years and share a daughter, Mayra, and grandson, Alessandro, who live in Texas. Rosio is fluent in Spanish. Vicar for Evangelization Father Gerardo Menchaca [email protected] (408) 983-0182 - office Father Gerardo Menchaca was ordained for the Diocese of San José on July 29, 1995 by Bishop Pierre DuMaine. In addition to various assignments in parishes throughout the Diocese, he has served as Vicar for Hispanic Ministry and as faculty at Saint Patrick Seminary and University. Father Menchaca earned his Doctorate in Theological Studies from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 2011. In addition to his duties as Vicar for Evangelization, he also is pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and an instructor at the Institute for Leadership in Ministry. Father Menchaca is fluent in Spanish, and Italian and understands Portuguese. Director of Life, Justice, and Peace Marcus Cabrera [email protected] (408) 983-0158 - office Prior to his arrival in San José, Marcus Cabrera served as a youth minister in the Diocese of San Diego and as a reli- gious curriculum director for a parochial school in the Diocese of Orange. His work has involved devel- oping ministries with homeless youth, ministering to children in crisis situations, and creating educa- tional outreach programs at the border. He earned his master’s degree in Theological Studies from the Franciscan School of Theology in 2008. Marcus and his wife, Sarah, welcomed their third daughter in June. Marcus is conversant in Spanish. Director of Family Life and Spiri- tuality Joel de Loera [email protected] (408) 983-0135 Joel de Loera comes to us from the Diocese of Fort Worth, where he was a parish director of religious education. Be- fore that, he served in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City as a parish youth minister and as a family case manager for Catholic Charities. Joel, who founded a number of outreach ministries in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, also has led retreats and been a guest speaker throughout the United States and Latin America. He and his wife, Nora, are the parents of five young children. Joel is fluent in Spanish. Episcopal Delegate to the Religious Sister Ellen Hess, V.D.M.F. [email protected] (408) 983-0123 - office Sister Ellen Hess most recently served the Diocese of Stockton as director of lay spiritual directors. Previously, she served as Provincial of the U.S. Communities of Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity, as General Superior of her community in Rome, and as a missionary in Europe and South America. Sister Ellen earned a doctorate in Theology and Spirituality and a licentiate in Christian Spirituality from the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University.
