St. John Vianney School
to celebrate 60th anniversary
September 2014 marks the
60th Jubilee of St. John Vianney
Catholic School, San Jose. The
Development Office, faculty
and staff have joined with
a committee of parents and
parishioners to plan a special
day, Sat., Sept. 6.
The parish school, located
in east San Jose, opened in
1954, two years after St. John
Vianney Church was constructed. A staff of seven,
most of whom were Sisters of
the Presentation, welcomed
the first students to grades 1-8.
By 1960, additions to the
school building included
eight more classrooms and a
library. In 1993, a new building was completed, which
included a double classroom
for kindergarten, extended
care facilities, and a counselor’s office.
On August 4, 2012, feast
day of St. John Vianney, the
Parish Community Center,
including a gymnasium, was opened. This building represented a capital
fundraising effort that spanned 12 years with four pastors.
In its six decades, the school has graduated 3,781 boys and girls and has
grown, in particular, through the leadership of the eight women who have
served as principal, along with the committed staff and dedicated parents.
