Diocesan archivist & Deacon honored
with Pro ecclesia et Pontifice medal
Archivist Bayne Bentley has served the
Diocese of San Jose for almost 16 years and
was recently presented with the Pro Ecclesia
et Pontifice Medal, awarded by the pope and
given to lay people for distinguished service
to the Church.
In presenting the award, Bishop Patrick J.
McGrath noted, “Samuel Bayne Bentley has
been Diocesan Archivist for nearly 16 years.
He has been and remains the consummate
archivist in his attention to detail and his
nearly infallible memory of which artifacts
are stored in various sections of the arc
