our lady of peace dedicates pope John paul ii statue
Bishop Patrick J. McGrath will dedicate a replica bronze statue of Pope John
Paul II at Our Lady of Peace Shrine,
Santa Clara, April 27, date of the canonization in Rome of the late pope along
with the canonization of Blessed Pope
John XXIII.
Prior to dedication of the statue,
Bishop McGrath will preside at a special
outdoor Divine Mercy Mass at 2 pm. The
full day of activities include: Confessions, 7 am to 9 pm; Rosary procession
after the dedication; the Shrine’s Library
Open House, 4 to 7 pm, followed by a
reception.
The parish has a first class relic of
John Paul II (containing pieces of his
hair) which will be exposed for public
veneration and prayer. Holy cards with
St. John Paul II’s image will be available.
Videos on the life and canonization
of John Paul II will be viewed on a large
movie screen at the Family Learning
Center, free.
The original statue was sculpted by
Albano Poli of Verona, Italy and was first
on display in the atrium of the Papal
Basilica of St. Paul (in 2008) before going
to its final destination, the Cross of the
Third Millennium in Coquimbo, Chile.
