will join refugee children from across the Bay Area to form two teams that will compete for the second annual One World Cup at 10:45 a . m . on April 28 at Archbishop Mitty High School . The game brings youth of different backgrounds together through the universal language of soccer .
“ We really hope that the positive energy of this event is a symbol and a motivating factor for others to welcome refugees ,” said Tim Wesmiller , Archbishop Mitty ’ s Director of Campus Ministry . “ When you get to know people and you get to know their lives , it ’ s hard to demonize them .”
While much of the world is closing its doors to refugees , Catholics continue to welcome them with open arms , or in this case , soccer fields . One World Cup was started by Archbishop Mitty students in partnership with Catholic Charities last year and attracted an enthusiastic crowd of community members .
“ Obviously , supporters are a big part of soccer . We had so many fans there ,”
said junior Mia Napolitano , a member of the AMHS varsity soccer team . “ The stands were packed . It was cool to see there was support from not just Mitty people but the community in general .”
Admission to the event is open to the public . Those attending the game are asked to make a $ 10 donation at the door to benefit the Refugee Foster Care Program , which is run by Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County . Join us for a wonderful afternoon of soccer , kinship , and fun !
Holy Family ’ s Stations of the Cross
A tradition that has been with Holy Family School is the seventh grader ’ s presentation of the Stations of the Cross on Holy Thursday .
At 10 a . m . on Holy Thursday morning , silence fell over Holy Family School . As the beat of drums sounded across the school ’ s campus , students , faculty and staff walked in silence to the church .
The service began and as each station was reenacted by the students , the most dramatic of the scenes are paused . A student representative explained each station and continued with how Jesus endured suffering , moments of support and sacrifice ; and explained the relevance of how Jesus ’ experience can be a reflection in our everyday life , in the current world and in the community .
The conclusion of the Stations brought a calm , yet a somber feeling of togetherness in the church . As the students walked back to their classes in silence , they were able to reflect on the stages of Christ ’ s passion and death .
Seventh graders at Holy Family School reenacted the Stations of the Cross on Holy Thursday .

Resurrection Buddy Classes Say Hats Off to Dr . Seuss
An exciting change happened this year at Resurrection School ; the Junior Kindergarten program was switched into a Transitional Kindergarten program . Making this change has given the “ Lil ’ Peacemakers ” opportunities to join the rest of the school for Friday Mass , participate in fundraisers like the Walk-A-Fun , and most importantly , get their own “ big buddies .” The sixth grade class , who has had to share buddies with other classes in previous years , benefited from this change by getting their very own “ little buddies .”
On March 2 , these two classes came together to celebrate Read Across
America Day , a nationally-supported reading day in schools and libraries that honors Dr . Seuss on his birthday . TK and sixth grade students read classic Dr . Seuss books together and topped-off the morning by making their very own “ Cat in the Hat ” hats ! This was an exercise in following directions , working together , and being patient . It was a morning full of reading and crafts , as well as witnessing the blessing of having older students guiding and teaching the youngest students . The only thing missing was some Green Eggs and Ham , but we ’ ll save that for another year !
