My interest in art initially developed during my teenage school years in Cambridgeshire where I was influenced greatly by my painting and ceramic teachers. With their encouragement I decided to pursue a career in the art world and studied further at the Great Yarmouth College of Art and Design in the early 1970’s. My studies directed me towards printmaking and ceramics were I worked closely with my tutors developing various techniques and processes.
Due to the financial pressures of a young family my anticipated career in art did not materialise and I remained in the Norfolk area working predominantly in the financial services industry. I am now retired and have time to concentrate on my neglected artwork.
My current work is a continuation of the work that I produced back in my college years but now I use acrylic on canvas, I also incorporate other mediums depending upon the subject matter of the artwork. My works can be described as “abstract” as I use shape and colour to interpret my subject matter; my main influence is from nature and ideas are developed from observations while I am walking in the countryside and along the coastline.
I have no particular artist that I can relate my work to. My work is driven by how I feel, if it doesn’t feel right it’s not acceptable and because of this a canvass can take a long time to produce. I will usually hang a piece of work in my home so I can view it continuously and therefore identify any aspects of the work that I am not happy with; it can then be reworked as necessary.
