The room became as cold as if it were the middle of January. In terror, sitting there, all I could do was chatter my teeth and grip my hands to the apron of the chair.

“He gives no response…”

“Why is he silent?”

“What do we do?”

The shadows stared at one another, all looking for a resolution in each other’s eyes. Silently, they all nodded in agreement after some time.

The lights flickered again, now two of them standing next to me. One on my left and one on my right. They forcefully seized my arms upward and held them tight. My shoulders felt as if they were about to pop. A third tore open my shirt and placed its hands upon my eyes. From here on, it was complete darkness. Gasping for anything, I jerked my head around but it eventually got held in place too. I could hear one of the kitchen drawers to the left open.

Shing

Something sharp was definitely lifted out of there. Was it a knife? A pizza cutter? A meat fork? The adrenaline rushing through my system was at its peak. I couldn’t feel my hands or feet, and my heart was beating harder than it ever had before.

Next thing I knew, a blade was rolling down my chest. I could feel the tip of it just barely scraping my skin.

“Please,” I begged, “I-If you want to be buried, I can do that. I can bring everything downtown and put all of you in the ground. You just gotta let me go.”

“It’s too late for that,” one of the shadows replied.

It continued to inch closer and closer to my heart.

“Please, I swear, I- I’ll actually do it. Just give me a chance,” I sheepishly implored, "Please."
