Can’t You See Me?
by Laila Newsome
No matter how loud I scream, you ignore my pleas
Your gaze goes right through my presence
Am I invisible? Can’t you see me?
You speak about me as if I’m next to nothing,
a mere nuisance
A fly buzzing in your ear, craving attention
No matter how loud I scream, you ignore my pleas
And even if we’re in the same room, in your head, you are alone
You forget about your surroundings, about the girl
so desperately begging for love right in front of you
Am I invisible? Can’t you see me?
I send small signals to you,
hoping that you’d finally notice
Yet you brush them off and yelled,
almost instantly muting my cries
No matter how loud I scream, you ignore my pleas
