The Girl with Red Converse

By Arleen Godoy

The Harry Potter books are her favorite. Everyone else left that series's back in sixth grade but not her. The idea of magic and the fascination for illusions ignites the perched curiosity in her. On her head there are always two neat braids every day which contrast the messy and scattered freckles on the bridge of her nose and forehead. With fiery hair she hauls her books around with her through all the quiet corridors of the castle she spends 5 days a week at. Although she compares it more to a haunted castle considering the wizards there gave her homework.

If she was a needle in a haystack, you would be able to find her. Her feet glow red like the brightest and sweetest apples. In the fall, with all the leaves on the ground she looks like she belongs with them, hair bright as the sun, thin like the twigs on the sidewalk. She has a brown tote bag with the phrase “Going Green” embroidered on it alongside  dozens of other small pins with short environmental Quotes that she brings everywhere.
