4 Years later…
Seeing the house that had made her blood boil had now seemed like an eternity ago as Laney laid her optics upon it now. Franny must have moved out by now .
Although, that wasn’t why she came back. The real reason she was here was to see the old woman. After that stressful day, Laney was able to escape Franny’s contaminated clutches, and finally become her own Lizzie Bennet. After Laney found that she passed the test, the grotesque expression on Franny’s face actually made her giggle as she packed up her things, and left. Laney was able to stay with Mrs. Lucy for some time while she went to sew during the week, making what she needed to stay in a small cottage of her own. Last Laney heard, David was quite devastated when she took her leave, but that was far in the back of her mind now, as
his “devoted bride” was now learning to teach other bright young students like herself.
Walking farther down the road, Laney finally found the woman’s house, and went up to knock on her door. She stepped back when the door opened, a younger woman standing at the
doorway, with a small little girl in her arms, sucking on her thumb.
“Hello there, can I help you ma’am?”
“Why yes, I was wondering if I could speak to your grandmother?”
“I’m sorry, who?” The woman questioned, a puzzled look on her brows.
“An older woman who helped me sometime ago, I believe she lived in this house!”
“Oh ma’am, the only older woman who lived here died many, many years ago. She was so sad after she had to give up her daughter, that she lost herself afterwards, or so I’ve heard”.
Laney couldn’t help feeling disconsolate when the news struck her, but she just couldn’t get her head wrapped around the idea. If that wasn’t the woman, then who could she be?
As if the woman felt her sadness, she responded by asking, “If you want, you could see something she left behind? It could help you find who you're looking for?”
