Laura threw the bowl of food onto the floor with a loud “Crash!” and the twins who often imitated their sister did the same. Soup splattered all over the floor of the house and all over Annabeth’s feet as the children scrambled out of the house giggling. Annabeth stood in shock in the room not believing that her children were that horrible to do such a thing. She cleaned up the

mess with tears in her eyes and went to bed. “Why must they do this to me.” she cried.

The children ran into the woods laughing at what they thought was a harmless joke. They played around in the trees and threw sticks and leaves at each other until they heard a calm sweet voice call out in their direction.

“Hello dears, what are you doing on this cold evening?” They looked up to see a woman with beautiful golden hair and piercing serpent-like green eyes. The children, who were already

captivated by the stunning woman, stared in shock until they finally explained, “We are just playing Miss”.

“Oh, what sweet children you are. You remind me of my own children who passed away”, the woman said. The children that were still amazed by this woman’s beauty failed to notice that she looked far too young to have children and failed to even realize that they were talking to a complete stranger. “I bought some treats from the market place. I was wondering if

you all wanted some since you look like such sweet children”, the woman explained. The children tore the bag of treats from her hand before she even handed it to them and started to shove the sweets in their mouth. Instead of lecturing them about manners like the common adult would do, the woman stood and smiled at the kids. They thanked her and headed back home to

torture their mother with their cruel words.

“Mother, Mother we met a very nice lady who

gave us candy in the woods”, said Johnny, sneering.

Annabeth raised herself off of her bed,

“What did I tell you about talking to strangers!”

She screamed out, making the house shake. Laura, Billy, and Johnny stopped their giggles and stared at their mother, confused, as she had never yelled at them before. Laura, who didn’t like that fact that her mother was yelling exclaimed, “Well you’re just jealous that the lady treats us better than you!”

Annabeth, who did not want to stress

herself anymore with her wicked children went

back to her room and locked the door.
