JR Le Bouedec (H, 86-91) created
Limden Vineyard in 2013, with his first
vintage in 2016. His first wine, named
O.R.some, dedicated to his daughter
Olivia Rose, won a bronze medal in the
Rosé category with UKVA, the national
wine body in the U.K. He is looking
forward to producing his first white wine
this year. In addition, he has just been
elected Vice President of the OIV MSc
alumni network for two years: this group
represents the future and current leaders
within the global wine industry.
JE Chan (H, 00-05) opened Ikoyi this
summer in St James’s Market. It is his

RS Austin (B, 94-99) has been appointed
a Consultant in Prosthodontics at Guy’s
Hospital from 2017, which completes
17 years of Clinical Academic training

London and Membership of the RCS
Edinburgh 2015. He is currently a
Clinical Lecturer at King’s College
London Dental Institute and serving as
President of the Odontology Section at
the Royal Society of Medicine for 2017-
19.
TE Mitchell (Coll, 78-83) has been
elected to the Council of the Royal
College of Surgeons of England. He will
start a four-year term of office in July
2017 when he stands down as Chair of
the Court of Examiners.

In August, FP Smiddy (K, 67-71) was in
the Great Britain team for the 23rd FAI
World Precision Flying Championships at
Spitzerberg in Austria.

JR Irvine-Fortescue (K, 00-05) reports: Ten
years and 15 days had passed since the
OWs last played at Tonbridge School.
The three returning members of that
side (Sam McArthur, James Burridge and
James Irvine-Fortescue) remembered
succumbing to an Old Tonbridgian side
packed with five spinners. A comment
so often muttered by downtrodden
sportsman in the wake of defeat is to
learn from your losses and ten years later
it was the OWs who were fielding five
spinners.
With a quick outfield and relatively short
boundaries, the OWs chose to bat first,
targeting 230 as a minimum. Despite
an early loss, Sam Cheetham and Dan
Escott scored freely, but, as the score

started to gather pace, the introduction
of spin put a halt to it. Sam used his feet
well for a period of time before mistiming
one to mid-off for 48. Dan was joined
at the crease by Ollie Mills, who went
about building a partnership on ones
and twos, manipulating the field and
running well – Barry would have been
delighted. When they fell for 36 and 28
respectively, they will both have been
frustrated not to convert good starts
into something more. Unfortunately, the
