No.129 The Trusty Servant Dates for your Diary Visiting Win Coll - security arrangements As and when the school fully reopens to visitors, OWs and Don Soc members are most welcome, but we have been asked by the Security Committee to remind those who wish to visit the school (other than for an event, when the instructions issued may be different, or when visiting as a spectator at matches) that they must contact the Porters’ Lodge to check whether the school is open for visitors. This should be done at least 24 hours in advance of the planned visit, or by Friday midday for weekends: +44 (0)1962 621227 or porters@ wincoll.ac.uk. They should arrive at the Porters’ Lodge and not enter by any other gate. They will be asked to produce identification and sign the OW or Don Soc visitors’ books; they will be issued with a visitor’s badge and lanyard, to be worn conspicuously during their visit, please, and returned as they leave through the same gate. They will also be given a map showing the areas of the school that may be visited. Safeguarding and child-protection regulations become ever tighter and OWs and ex-staff are no longer allowed to come and go at will. If you wish to visit a boarding house, please contact the housemaster well in advance to see if this is possible and please do not turn up on the doorstep unannounced. The Government will not be announcing any plans for the relaxing of its lockdown rules until after The Trusty Servant is distributed. 2020: The following events may take place if Government guidelines on events are lifted: 12th September Goddard Day in Winchester 24 September Collegemen Dinner at the Cavalry and Guards Club, London 29th September New Men and 2nd Year Parents’ Reception at Merchant Taylors’ Hall, London 3rd October Collegemen Dinner in College Hall, Winchester 13th October Parents of Years 3 & 4 Reception at Merchant Taylors’ Hall, London 30th October OW Bristol & Bath Dinner at The Mansion, Prior Park 2021: 4th-11th Feb. Wykeham Patrons’ Trip to South Africa May: Postponed 2020 Wykeham Patrons’ Trip to Italy ‘In the steps of Kenneth Clark’ What do you want from future events? This is an opportunity for us all to reflect on the types of events that would appeal to a large number of OWs, young and old. We will certainly continue with the 60 Years-on Lunch, OW Guild Dinner and Under 25s Dinner, all of which are well attended. We also intend to hold the postponed Edinburgh Dinner when able and we are due to entertain Collegemen. The end of the series of the 150 th House Anniversaries, which were very successful, gives Win Coll Soc some capacity to plan a different range of events. It would be very useful if you could let us know what sort of thing appeals- we have an open mind! [email protected] You can register and pay online for events.
