The Trusty Servant late 1950s, when the school outgrew the space, although occasional Saturday services took place in the 1970s and 80s. The Advent carol service left the Cathedral in the 1990s when noise from the increasingly commercial market outside became disruptive. In recent years, the school has assembled there for a service at the beginning of each academic year, for Founder’ s Obit( combined with the beginning-of-year service from 2013), and an end-of-year service until the late 2000s.
Inversion of the Natural Order The College Win Co Fo team won the VIs Festival, but their scientific generalknowledge experts only came eighth in Wilson Pot. It is the first time that the men of Chamber Court have achieved the former, and only the second that they have failed to win the latter. Clearly the scientists were resting themselves for the
Olympiads, in which four Collegemen were invited to the national selection rounds.
Achievements Dominic Rowland( C, 01-06; Maths) composed question 5 of the British Mathematical Olympiad paper 1. Nick MacKinnon( Maths) composed question 3 of the BMO 2 – and the mark-scheme for it was written by Richard Freeland( Coll, 09-11):‘ The sum of the cubes of the first n natural numbers is always a perfect square. Show that the sum of the cubes of the next n natural numbers is never a perfect square.’ Answers on a post-card, please!
Claire Webster( Classics) and Stephen Anderson( Classics, 80-15) contributed sections on Herodotus and Xenophon to the new OCR AS and A2 Greek Anthology( Bloomsbury).
The U18 Fives players retained their national title. Tom Kidner( E, 13-) is only the second schooboy in 55 years to win and retain both the West of England and National singles titles. Tom partnered Kieran Mackison( also E) to win the doubles.
The basketball team won the Wellington Invitation, the premier independentschools competition.
Joseph Oluwabusola( C, 16-) has been selected for ISFA U15 England soccer side.
George Baxendale( E, 13-) collected a Queen’ s Award for Voluntary Service( the group equivalent of an MBE) on behalf of the Winchester Churches Night Shelter, at which he and several other Wykehamists volunteer. This is only the second Queen’ s Award to be received in Hampshire.

Art
From 17th March- 16th May, Glimpses of Eternity was an exceptional exhibition of 35 paintings plus sketches created by ACJ Creswell( G, 70-75) during his residency at Westminster Abbey 2011-17. This is the first collection of paintings to be made of the Abbey since its foundation and was acquired by The Dean & Chapter of Westminster in February 2018. See www. alexandercreswell. com
BR Fitzpatrick( C, 06-11) has recently returned from an apprenticeship at a studio in Florence to set up his own studio in the Chelsea Studios on the Fulham Road, practising primarily in portraiture. He would like to connect with other Wykehamist artists. See www. brendanfitzpatrickart. com
The Bach Choir has recently issued a recording of two works by Sir George Dyson( Master of Music, 24-37). The works were his Choral Symphony and St Paul’ s Voyage to Melita. The Choir includes four OWs: ME Pellew( K, 55- 60), CM Dancy( C, 61-67), CW Tulloch( B, 61-66) and NE Morris( G, 03-08).
Awards
AM Reid( I, 61-66) has been awarded an MBE for services to the community in Winchester.
MP Roller( I, 11-16), who is in his second year studying PPE at Exeter College, won the Clive Taylor Prize for sports journalism at a dinner in London. The prize money will be used towards travel costs this summer to report on the County Cricket season.
