Following his independent review in 2015-16 , Sir David Clementi ( E , 62- 67 ; Warden , 08-14 ) has become the new Chair of the BBC . David was the preferred candidate put forward by culture secretary Karen Bradley and will lead the corporation ’ s new unitary board that replaced the BBC Trust on 1 April . Bloomberg Media is in a growth mode , expanding its creative , marketing and custom content offerings . Its latest big move is the hire of ED Lynn ( I , 87-92 ), Ogilvy & Mather ’ s North American CCO of content and social . As global CCO , he will lead a team of creatives , editors , copywriters , designers and producers who will make branded campaigns and experiences to fuel Bloomberg Media ’ s projects .
In early April , our Sen Man Lord Wigram MC ( H , 28-34 ), now 101 and one of the few surviving godchildren of George V ( the others including the Queen and the Duke of Kent ), appeared in a Channel 4 documentary on Edward VIII - then Prince of Wales - Spying On The Royals . He remembers this period well because his father was private secretary to the King . ‘ It infuriated George ,’ he recalls . ‘ The Prince was entirely infected by what the King called the worst American habits – drinking cocktails and going to nightclubs . There were rumours that the Prince of Wales was leading a funny sort of life involving lots of women . I remember asking my father what it was all about . And he said , “ Things aren ’ t quite right .”’

AR Mehta ( F , 99-04 ) has secured a Rowling Scholarship and has moved from Oxford , where he was a Neurology Registrar , to Edinburgh , to undertake a PhD into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in frontotemporal lobar dementia and motor neurone disease at the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology clinic . TE Mitchell ( Coll , 78-83 ) has been elected to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England . He will start a 4 year term of office in July 2017 when he stands down as Chair of the Court of Examiners

JCdeC Scott ( E , 69-74 ) informs : The Nicholson Lecture is delivered annually in memory of Brigadier Claude Nicholson ( G , 1912-17 ) by a serving or retired member of our armed forces . This year ’ s lecture , entitled ‘ The “ Not the Chilcot ” Report - Defence and Security in our Times ’, is to be given by Lieutenant General Sir James Bucknall , KCB CBE ( A , 72-76 ), and his selected charity is Combat Stress .
Nicholson was one of the brightest soldiering prospects of his generation and was despatched to command the garrison at Calais in 1940 : after an heroic battle against overwhelming odds , the port fell and Nicholson was captured . He died in a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany in 1943 .
